I want to advance health
There are plenty of health problems for the innovative company to get its teeth into. Child health, maternal health, lifestyle diseases, HIV/AIDS, anxiety and substance abuse are all high on the list of health problems.
Apply for grants
There is money to be made from eradicating disease and promoting good health – even among the world’s poorest. But developing healthcare technology often requires heavy investment. You might therefore consider applying for grants from the government or from insurance companies.
Promoting health is about more than just medicines. It can also be about everyday practical solutions that help the overweight, pregnant or homeless.
Smoking, exercise and diet
This might mean changing habits, better aids or helping with daily exercise.
For example, Danish company 1508 has been working with the City of Frederiksberg to try to make the treatment of people with COPD (smoker's lung) more effective.
The result is a concept called the 'The Hero’s Journey', a rehabilitation process which aims to enable patients to provide self-care and return to a functional and rewarding daily life.
What can you do to solve the world's health problems?
Many of the UN's development goals have to do with health:
- Reduce under-five mortality by two-thirds
- Reduce maternal mortality by three-quarters
- Provide universal access to contraceptives
- Halt and reverse the growth in the number of victims of HIV/AIDS, malaria etc.
- Provide universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS.
